How to Play Mecha Chameleon
Mecha Chameleon is a free hide-and-seek arena game that runs right in your browser — no download, no install. You play as a chameleon in a colorful painted world: blend in to survive as a hider, or track down hidden chameleons as a hunter. This guide covers the basics and the habits that win rounds.
The basics
Each round takes place in a painted arena. Hiders disguise themselves by matching the colors around them; hunters search the map and catch anyone they spot. A round ends when the timer runs out or every hider is found. The on-screen prompts show your controls when a round starts.
How hiding works
Your chameleon takes on the color of whatever you stand on or next to. The closer your color matches the background, the harder you are to spot. Good hiding is about position and patience:
- Pick a spot whose color you can match closely — a near-match still stands out.
- Stay still once you're blended in. Movement is what gives most hiders away.
- Avoid open ground; edges, corners, and busy painted areas break up your outline.
- If a hunter gets close, relocate early rather than waiting to be cornered.
Playing as the hunter
As a hunter, your job is to find every hidden chameleon before time runs out. Sweep the map methodically instead of running in circles, watch for anything that moves or looks slightly off-color, and check the spots you already passed — good hiders relocate behind you.
Tips to win more rounds
- Learn each map's best hiding colors before the round gets hectic.
- Change spots between hunter passes instead of trusting one hiding place.
- Watch the timer: late in a round, hunters get desperate and check less carefully.
- Play a few rounds to learn the arena layouts — map knowledge beats reflexes.
